Govt. releases funds to reconstruct houses

THE Government has commenced the release of financial grant for reconstruction of houses affected beyond the hundred meter buffer zone at the rates of Rs. 250,000 and Rs. 100,000 for houses fully and partly damaged by the tsunami disaster respectively, says a release from the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).

This task is being attended by the Housing Development Authority (NHDA) through their Technical Offices under the coordination of District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries.

This program is implemented under the guidance of Tsunami Housing Reconstruction Unit (THRU) set up to formulate and implement the Tsunami Disaster Housing Program.

The NHDA has already completed its survey to assess the damages to houses caused by tsunami. Based on the data collected, families of the houses identified as fully destroyed and partially damaged are granted financial assistance by the Technical Officers of NHDA on phased out basis depending on the progress of reconstruction.

In addition to disbursement of financial assistance, the NHDA is engaged in providing technical advisory service to affected families to reconstruct their houses, the release said.
